Couple or 1-3 person mini-camps
The mini-camp offers a great deal of private and semi-private interaction with Karlyn and offers a flexible schedule that can be spread out over long weekend, a week or longer. You decide when and where you wish to meet and what you would like to focus on. The mini-camp is a GREAT way to get a taste of what Karlyn teaches. You will swim faster right away!

Sample mini-camp schedule:

Session one: Faster Freestyle clinic at Karlyn's house followed by each person receiving a private lesson in the Endless Pool with videotaping and analysis. See “private instruction” page for more details about this session.

Session two: Open water swim clinic at the Kailua Pier, the start of the Ironman World Championships. The clinic will start with an ocean safety talk, and then cover open water strategies, sighting, and navigation and whole bunch of cool OW drills and skills. Then we go for a swim with Karlyn swimming right by your side watching your technique and offering suggestion. Distance of swim depends on your ability and time.

Third session: This is the tricky part as your options are many! We can meet at the Kona Community Aquatic Center and work on the “other” strokes...fly, back and breast while we review your “new” freestyle. We can also work on turns, streamlines, pacing and workout strategies. OR, we can return to the Endless Pool OR the ocean. That’s the beauty of this session…you get to decide what is right for you.

Cost: Please email Karlyn for a quote, but the average cost is approximately $495 per person.

Three, four and five-day Aquatic Edge Swim camps

Small group size to make sure you received PLENTY of attention. Sessions are 4-5 hours per day and usually begin at 9 am. To minimize sun exposure, each day has approximately 2+ hours of water time. The remaining time will be on the shaded deck, classroom or other areas.

Sample Schedule:

Day one:
Faster Freestyle Clinic with videotaping of “before” freestyle
Out of water formwork and classroom discussion
Watch Karlyn’s Go Swim Freestyle DVD
Review “before” videos
Step-by-step freestyle stroke progression
Video freestyle a second time
Discussion: Post exercise nutrition

Day two:
Core exercises and stretching
Review videos from previous day
Continue freestyle stroke progression
Freestyle turns
Watch Karlyn’s Go Swim All-Stroke backstroke
Introduction to backstroke with videotaping
Discussion: Getting the most out of your training

Day three:
Open water swim clinic with ocean safety talk, open water strategies
At Kailua Pier (start of the Ironman) OR
Another pool session
Evening: Private session in the Endless Pool with video followed by a Hawaiian style Happy hour at Karlyn’s home. Spouses, family and friends are invited to attend.

Day off!
At some point in the camp, Karlyn would suggest a day off to go an explore the wonders of the Big Island of Hawaii. A trip to the volcano, Mauna Loa Observatory, the Hilo side or just a day to relax.

Day four:
Stretch, core exercises and yoga
Watch videos from previous sessions
Review backstroke techniques from previous day
Watch fly and breast DVD
Intro to short axes strokes: breaststroke and butterfly
Discussion: TBD

Final Day:
Optional group ocean swim in AM before session starts
Pool: Review of all strokes
Focus on campers specific needs/questions
Videotape
Review tapes

Cost: Please email Karlyn for a quote, but the average cost for a three- day camp is $595, four-day camp is $745 and a five-day camp is $895 per person.

Best time to TRAVEL to HAWAII:
Honestly, ANYTIME is a great time to visit Kona. The weather on the Big Island of Hawaii is some of the best in the world with an average year round high of 80-85 degrees and a low between 75 (summer) and 65 (winter). Off-peak travel times for Hawaii are September, October, November, January, February, March, April and May. The is October and is a GREAT time to visit, but it can be very crowded, so book early!!!

Accommodation:

For a variety of choices in condos and houses, visit Vacation Rentals By Owner at http://www.vrbo.com/vacation-rentals/usa/hawaii

And specifically: http://www.vrbo.com/vacation-rentals/usa/hawaii/big-island/kona-coast/kailua-kona I am located in Kailua-Kona, but also look at an area called Keauhou. Places like Captain Cook or Waikoloa, are wonderful places to stay but are a 30-50 minute drive respectively.

For an inexpensive studio-type hotel right in the heart of Kona Village, I suggest the Kona Islander Inn http://www.konaislanderinnhotel.com/

Air travel:
Airlines flying direct or non-stop to Kona-Keohole International Airport (KOA) are: American, Alaska, United, Hawaiian, Delta and Northwest. WestJet and Air Canada also have regular flights to Kona.

So come join me in Hawaii for the best swim camp experience of your life!

Mahalo!
