  Open Water Adventure Swim Hawaii

Ironman Course
Location: Kailua Bay, located right in the heart of Kona
Distance: 1/2 mile, 1.2 miles and 2.4 depending on ability
Duration: 1.5 hours and includes a safety talk
Cost: $195 for one, $295 for two

Locals know that they are blessed to have this wonderful, crystal clear water right in the middle of town and boy do they take advantage of it! The temperature averages between 73-78 degrees making it a perfect temperature to swim year round. We will see tropical fish and coral reefs and if we are lucky we will encounter turtles (Honu), manta rays and Spinner DOLPHINS, as they are all regular visitors to the bay (see video below).

Karlyn will swim or paddle right alongside you while you are on the official swim course for the Ironman World Championship. While you swim, Karlyn will offer swim technique suggestions and work with you to help you improve your stroke. Open water skills and drills, sighting and drafting techniques will also be offered

Depending on your ability, we will swim 1/2, 1.2 or 2.4 miles, often stopping to check out landmarks, interesting aquatic life and to make sure you are comfortable in the water. If a fast paced workout is what you prefer, Karlyn can pace you at any speed or distance up to 2.4 miles. Karlyns time for a 2.4 Ironman swim is 51 minutes.

Here is an amzing video that Karlyn filmed took while on a morning swim in Kailua Bay. The dolphins were everywhere!

Swim with the Turtles (Honu)
Location: Kahaluu Beach Park South end of Kona near Keauhou
Distance: 1/2 mile to 1 mile
Duration: 1.5 hours and includes a safety talk
Cost: $195 for one, $295 for two

If you like to swim and be entertained by aquatic wildlife, then this is the swim for you! Kahaluu (Ka-ha-lu as the locals pronounce it) is a shallow, reef protected bay about 5 miles south of Kona Village at the end of Alii Drive.

After a safety talk, Karlyn will escort you around Kahaluu Bay where you will see hundreds of tropical fish, colorful coral reef and hopefullyturtles! While you swim, Karlyn will offer swim technique suggestions and work with you to help you improve your stroke. Open water skills and drills, sighting and drafting techniques will also be offered.

If you are adventurous and comfortable with waves, Karlyn may opt to take you out past the breakers into deeper water to experience the ultimate in open water swimmingvisibility up to 100 feet, coral reef, fish and more!

Safety and Certifications:
Karlyn enjoys sharing her love of the water with you on these scenic swims. However, your safety is her number one priority! Every swim begins with a water safety talk to asses your comfort level in the water, brief you on the current conditions we are about to enter, and what to do in case of an emergency.

Certifications: Karlyn in a former State of California Beach Lifeguard with over 13 years of ocean guarding experience. Certified in Lifeguard and First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED/Oxygen, Waterfront, and Safety Training for Swim Coaches.
